Exenatide has not been studied in patients with severe gastrointestinal GI disease, including gastroparesis. The cessation of nicotine therapy or tobacco smoking may result in a decrease in blood glucose or an increase in absorption of subcutaneous absorption of injections. Systemic and inhaled corticosteroids are known to increase blood glucose and worsen glycemic control in patients taking antidiabetic agents. Possible mechanisms include atypical antipsychotic-induced insulin resistance or direct beta-cell inhibition.
